Long An Province Delegation Visits Taiwan Institute of Economic Research to Explore Semiconductor Development Potential and Policy Guidance for Southern Vietnam

On the morning of August 28, 2024, the Southeast Asia Impact Alliance (SIA) leveraged its strong partnership with the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research (TIER) to facilitate a visit for the Long An Province delegation to TIER to further explore the impact of semiconductor policy development on Taiwan’s semiconductor industry and economy.

During the meeting, Dr. Tan Ching-Yu of the Research Division IX specifically pointed out that although many tech companies are currently concentrated in Northern Vietnam, Southern Vietnam also holds significant development potential, particularly in attracting foreign investment and enhancing regional economic competitiveness. TIER has already initiated several research and exchange activities in Southern Vietnam, and these insights provide important references for Long An Province’s development direction.

This meeting, which differed in focus from previous exchanges with the Hsinchu City Government and Hsinchu Science Park, provided an invaluable opportunity for Long An Province representatives and senior industrial zone leaders to reevaluate their approach, in terms of understanding the broader picture and their own strengths before guiding industry development through policy, ultimately driving long-term economic progress.

Through this in-depth exchange, the Southeast Asia Impact Alliance (SIA) also gained new guidance and perspectives for supporting semiconductor industry development between Taiwan and Vietnam in the future, better understanding how to help Vietnam establish a semiconductor hub and attract foreign investment, thereby laying a solid foundation for long-term cooperation between the two regions.
