The Second Annual K.T. Li Awards: Honoring Taiwan’s Pioneers in Technology and Industry

On October 28, 2024, the second annual K.T. Li Awards were ceremoniously presented to Mr. Bruce C.H. Cheng, founder of Delta Electronics, and Mr. Matthew F.C. Miau, Chairman of MiTAC International.

Established over 30 years ago, the K.T. Li Foundation is Taiwan’s most influential foundation in technology and semiconductors. Mr. K.T. Li, Taiwan’s Minister of Economic Affairs in the 1970s, also often regarded as the “Father of Taiwan’s Technology,” played a crucial role in founding TSMC and the Hsinchu Science Park.

At last year’s inaugural K.T. Li Awards ceremony, the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to TSMC founder Morris Chang, who remarked, “Without K.T. Li, there would be no TSMC.” Jensen Huang, who traveled from the United States to attend, echoed this sentiment: “Without Morris Chang, there would be no NVIDIA.”

This year’s award recipients are similarly outstanding figures leading the development of Taiwan’s industries:

  • Mr. Bruce C.H. Cheng – Founder of Delta Electronics, has led one of Taiwan’s most forward-looking companies in sustainable development. Mr. Cheng expressed that Taiwan’s economic achievements today owe much to the selfless contributions of two generations of pioneers like Yin Chung-jung, S.Y. Dao, K.T. Li, and Sun Yun-suan. Their policies created a thriving environment for entrepreneurship and investment, driving the growth of Taiwan’s industries. With over 60 years in the industrial sector, Mr. Cheng deeply appreciates Mr. Li’s foresight, which has continually inspired him to reflect on his own mission and responsibilities.

  • Mr. Matthew F.C. Miau – Chairman of MiTAC-Synnex Group, has led Taiwan’s most international IT enterprise, establishing strategic alliances with numerous global IT giants. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Miau described Mr. Li as a mentor who understood national issues and had vision and strategy. He noted that without Mr. Li, Taiwan’s information industry might have lagged behind for years. He also shared that MiTAC’s 50th anniversary is the day after the ceremony, making this award feel like a renewed encouragement from Mr. Li.

These two leaders, with their exceptional contributions and foresight, have propelled Taiwan’s industries onto the global stage. They are truly deserving of this recognition, embodying the future direction of Taiwan’s industry development.
